Company members Ben Tebbe, Lauren Morris, and Michael Shelton from HART's first production,
Death and the Maiden.
In the fall of 2006, Heartland Actors’ Repertory Theatre (HART) was founded by professional actors, colleagues who had worked together on various short-term projects throughout the Midwest and saw growing audience demand for high quality theatre. Encouraged by this public interest and spurred by our desire to earn a living as professional artists in our home city of Indianapolis, we pooled our personal resources and created HART.
HART is a powerful new force in the Indianapolis community. As a fully professional theatre company, HART attracts top talent working in central Indiana and in theatres all across the country and employs actors who are members of Actors’ Equity Association, the union for professional actors and stage managers.
HART has produced works that span the breadth of dramatic literature from new works and premieres to free Shakespeare in the park. See here for our show archive and to read more about these productions.
HART was formed in the spirit of theatres like Steppenwolf in Chicago, where the ensemble, the core of actors was at the very heart of all artistic decisions. HART's company includes many of the top talents working in Indianapolis and all over the country.
Dedicated to achieving artistic excellence - while nurturing and showcasing the work of the finest actors, directors, designers, and playwrights - in a relevant manner - accessible to all people.
Focusing on a wide range of dramatic styles, we encourage audiences to understand the breadth of dramatic literature, from the classical to the most contemporary, and to develop an appreciation for the art of live theatre.
Through our resident professional company, we strive to inspire, challenge, amaze, educate, excite, empower, and connect artists and audiences.
